S-Bahn Stuttgart

We've overhauled the interior as part of our S-Bahn Stuttgart project. The new suburban trains will now include two more multi-purpose compartments in the middle in addition to the existing ones at either end. Featuring padded surfaces for standing passengers and fold-down seats only, these compartments have been optimised to accommodate bicycles. Travellers with bikes can also use two doors to get to the parking spaces, which is another improvement on the multi-purpose compartments currently in use. The new style of seats in the front and rear multi-purpose compartments also improves accessibility for wheelchair users and passengers with prams or pushchairs.

The new interior

Mobility-related needs are growing more diverse all the time, particularly in cities. Residents need vehicles that permit more flexible uses, so the new S-Bahn trains will have two new multi-purpose compartments in the middle of the train in addition to the carriages at the ends.

A clearer picture

Passengers now have better information about their journeys thanks to the monitors, which are mounted in "gondolas" on the ceiling. Each vehicle has eight of them, which adds up to 16 paired screens, in addition to four single screens – each short train has 20 in total, in other words.  We have also introduced an automatic passenger counter, which will make it possible to make more accurate forecasts regarding train capacity. This information will be available via a number of channels. We have added another new feature – power socket are now available in the various areas on every train, so you'll always have convenient access to the power you need for work or entertainment.
